Sping is in the Air !

It is sunny and blue here today ,we are hoping for Spring Break running water. That is so refreshing after a long winter. There is alot of snow to melt, hope most of it runs into the dugout. I need alot of water for our big garden !

We have missed baby animal this Spring . Our sheep aren't due till May and we have sold the goats. But we still have out faithful Jersey Cow Bonnie and she is due in July. By then the grass will be green and the sun will be hotter.

So we dream of those days, plant a few indoor seeds and cherish all we are blessed with everyday .

I have been dreaming today, of a hot steaming cup of tea and honey with my friends, who are women of the same kind and who cherish each others advice. I am sure with that cup of love , we would have raspberry cheesecake with farm fresh, jersey cream, heaped up to the top of the Bridge Mix decorated topping. We would laugh and cry and share. To all my dear readers, winter is long, but Jesus is our guest, at our tea-table. Lets hear His voice and rest there a while so we know His ways.

Delightful Treats !

The delightful treat is that people would read my blog and want something from me !! You all bless me and here is the recipe for
Quinoa Peanut Butter Granola Bars .

2 Cups red or white quinoa flake

1/4 cup of ground flax seed

1/2 cup of finely shredded unsweetened coconut

1/2 cup lightly roasted salted Almonds

1 cup chopped Dried fruit medley

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup Peanut Butter

1/2 cup honey

2 tsp vanilla

2 egg whites

Preheat oven to 350*, Combine quinoa flakes, ground flax seed , coconut, almonds and dried fruit. Set aside. Place brown sugar , peanut butter, honey and vanilla in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until sugar dissolves and peanut butter begins to melt, about 4 minutes. Add to the dry ingredients, along with egg whites. ( I just realised , I forgot the egg whites, or I don't remember putting them in,( age !!) but it still was good, so I think it would stick together better. ) Line a 8 inch square pan with parchment paper. Spread mixture evenly into dish and smooth top. Bake for 25 minutes, cool and then cut .

cleared up

Yesterday my son Thomas decided to start a blog, to post his hunting memoirs , because us women are having so much fun at it ! BUT , I guess there was an cyber mess up because we are new at all this, and so his profile information ended up on my blog and he had spelt his name Frod instead of Ford. The whole thing is a huge family laughing memory and I think I have straightened it all out. Oh yes, Thanks for blessing me Rosaleen, this world is alot of fun even if we live continents apart !!

Today I feel like crawling under my quilt close to the warm glowing fire , I just might do that !! Blessed to rest !

It is so fun to look back at summer pictures, especially when there is colour in the picture but snow out my window . How refreshing, I new I was tired for a reason . Life on a farm is beautiful and busy.

Food for thoughts

Winter is here and with it comes woodstoves and simmering new recipes !! Homemade chicken soup and fresh bread are a must and so after a fresh chicken supper the bones go on to simmer. We can enjoy a fresh hot bowl of warm soup for our bones and mind !! My menonite neighbor says ALWAYS add a anise star spice to chicken broth. It is great for the immune system as well as tastey . God did say, there is a herb for every illness !! How wise He is .

Yesterday I tried a new healthy square , Quinoa-Peanut Butter Granola Bars . Hope you like my new cookie tins too !! It is always fun to add some more colour to your kitchen ! The square isn't even eaten yet and Thomas is saying I should make some more AND post the recipe on my blog. I am blessed !!
You can also see our dried rosehips in jar. Whenever we go walking or the kids are in the woods, we fill our pockets with the gems in Sept or October. You should pick them after the first frost, dry them in wicker baskets and then you have an abundance of vitamin C for the winter. We make a pot of simmering tea and honey whenever someone thinks they are getting sick. You have to drink the whole pot !! After a trip to the healthfood store the other day, I know why we need to pick the fruits of a harvest. It is not only wise and better for you , but cheaper !!
I am making fresh bread later and getting ready for a restful week end....by the fire !

Savoring the summer

It has been along time since I have written and snow is covering the land which means a busy time but also a time to do things inside. So I am hopeful that I will post on my blog more this winter. Bear with me.

We had a long and dry summer but the hay is in and the garden was so worth every weed !! We tr

ied to have fun along with the chores and other than enjoying the flowers and food on the new deck we bought a pool. So if you drove by and saw me milking the cow or weeding and watering in my bathing suit , I know you will understand that I am from the Island. I didn't realise how much I missed the look , sound and feel of water !
